Metal Additive Manufacturing: Materials and Manufacturing is the first book on metal additive manufacturing to take readers, scholars and practitioners alike beyond the design freedom this revolutionary manufacturing process offers. The book clearly shows the essence of metallurgical principles in realizing the full scope of material and process control freedom in metal additive manufacturing. The book's author reveals how fundamental metallurgical principles can be utilized to develop new materials, AM and subsequent processing, and their controls that cannot be achieved in any other manufacturing methods. In addition, the book also shows how to overcome the inherent weaknesses of AM, including structural integrity and surface finish. Users will find a comprehensive presentation on the vast array of materials possibilities available to tailor product performance utilizing sensor and model based in-situ process controls.
Autorenporträt
Dr. Prabir K. Chaudhury is the Technical Fellow at Divergent 3D Technologies Corporation developing new AM materials and processing technologies for engineering applications in Automotive and Aerospace industries. Dr. Chaudhury leads the new AM materials, processing, characterization, and inspection technologies. He has invoked materials freedom in AM and developed new metal AM alloys that are superior to wrought automotive and aerospace materials, as well as implemented Non-destructive Inspection (NDI) methods and developed standards for the AM industry. He is also working closely with AM factory development for automated component production, inspection, assembly, and certification of automotive and aerospace components and full vehicles. Prior to Divergent 3D, Dr. Chaudhury was the Global Technical Director at Element Materials Technology providing technical leadership to its 70 metals laboratories in 33 countries. He led the Additive Manufacturing testing and consulting business by defining technical requirements for testing, inspection and qualifications. He also promoted AM and implemented best practices for advancement of metal AM in Aerospace, Defence, Medical, and other industrial sectors across the globe. Dr. Chaudhury has been working closely with the global Additive Manufacturing industry through his participation in ASTM F-42 and SAE AM committees, NIST, America Makes, FAA, and ISO collaboration efforts, working with OEMs, AM manufacturers, and machine builders.
