There are limited solutions to the rising problems in our technological and medical world. For example, the present technology imposes a limit on the development of faster and more powerful computers, whilst in our medical world there is a growing need for newer, less toxic and more effective anticancer treatments and MRI contrast agents. A new class of ligands monosubstituted squarate ligands was synthesised and their complexes assessed with a view to alleviating some of these problems. The chemistry of monosubstituted squarate ligands has moved swiftly from its embryonic stages just over a few years ago, to now a well-established niche in Inorganic Chemistry. This book features the complexing properties of these ligands with special focus on obtaining (i) polymeric metal complexes with potential as molecular magnets and semiconductors, (ii) ruthenium complexes with antiproliferative properties and (iii) gadolinium complexes with MRI enhancement properties. This book will be especially useful to those in academia who wish to improve their understanding as well as explore further uses of monosubtituted squarate ligands and their complexes.
