Parasites represent a large percentage of the diversity of life on earth being as high as half of all extant species. Sharks are very imperative in commercial fisheries in various parts of the world including India. Fish parasites as bioindicators of environmental degradation are fascinating the Zoologists immensely to work on these lines. These are free-living or parasite species that respond to habitat modifications with changes in their numbers, physiology or chemical composition. Though there are several reports on elasmobranch parasites and their role as biological indicators from all over the world, but the parasitic fauna of Indian elasmobranchs is not yet absolutely revealed.
