According to research, in recent years, analytical techniques developed worldwide on the speciation of heavy metals in environmental matrices and particularly in water, have included appropriate combinations of methods of sample preparation and treatment with specific methods of separation and concentration, which have allowed, through advanced technologies, to improve specificity, sensitivity and decrease the limits of detection and quantification to achieve this purpose. The Universidad Estatal Amazónica has laboratories equipped with different technologies for different types of research, however, research aimed at speciation has not yet been carried out, partly because there is little incentive, because there are no regulations that require this work and partly because of the lack of knowledge of the importance of determining species of heavy metals present in surface waters independently or separately.
