Nowadays Translation Studies is moving away from the mere consideration of linguistic features towards the incorporation of the ideological and cultural properties of the source and target texts in its subject matter. Among these properties one can easily see the strong influence of the cultural and social mismatches and conflicts which are at work throughout the translation process. When a translator comes across a mismatch or a problematic concept in the ST, it becomes necessary to modify that concept in order to stick to the prevalent norms of the receptor society in the act of semiotic transport of the meaning across ideological and cultural borders. The main concern of this book is to identify these problematic concepts and lay bare the strategies resorted to by the translators to tackle them.
