Strategies commonly used to improve the therapeutic effect and antibacterial activity of active pharmaceutical ingredients involve exploring their solid forms, notably polymorphs, solvates/hydrates, salts and cocrystals. Among the various approaches considered to remedy the problem of bacterial resistance, the strategy of co-crystallization of antibiotics with coformers appears to be a promising solution for improving physicochemical properties, inhibiting resistance and enhancing antibacterial activity.
