Mewtwo is one of the series' Pokémon that can be captured and used in battles against other Pokémon in battles central to the series. The player first learns of Mewtwo towards the later part of the game through research documents left in a ruined laboratory on Cinnabar Island. Through the documents, it is revealed to be a genetically modified descendant of Mew created after years of work by a solitary scientist.
