Sagmeister gained first prominence when he performed in 1975 at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival. The following year he founded the Michael Sagmeister Trio with Udo Kistner (playing bass) and Michael Kuettner on drums which became his most successful ensemble. Sagmeister gained first prominence when he performed in 1975 at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival. The following year he founded the Michael Sagmeister Trio with Udo Kistner (playing bass) and Michael Kuettner on drums which became his most successful ensemble. From 1993 to 1997 Sagmeister was a lecturer at Berklee College of Music in Boston and since 1999 he is a tenured professor at the College for Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt.
