Microcredit (MC) involves a dilemma on two opposite school of thoughts as it is branded as a key tool for alleviating poverty as well as it is criticized for making the poor poorer. Going beyond this myth and criticism this book incorporates my PhD work which proposes a universal model for this sector and concentrates on the improvement of performance evaluation mechanism for the Micro-finance Institutions (MFIs) to carry this promising sector to the next generation of sustainable development. Accommodating the variations and dimensions of MC and MFIs compared to formal financial sector and institutions, the authors argue that it is neither a solution nor an illusion. Then it serves for what? Does it work? Will MC be struggling with these dilemmas? In addition of making out these dilemmas, this book will increasingly accommodate the aspire of MFIs to have access to the excluded, as well as in building and repairing the confidence of the stakeholders like researchers, public, issuers, investors, potential donors, funding, auditing and the regulating agencies.
