Two approaches, which will be demonstrated in the present study, are focusing on the elucidation of the biological degradation and decolorization processes of two synthetic azo dyes, methyl red and fast blue. For this purpose, novel Bacillus strains were isolated from polluted marine environments and characterized at their biochemical and molecular levels. Bioremediation investigations were carried out using experimental designs. It is expected, through a better understanding of the decolorization mechanisms, to widen the available range of bioremediation tools.
