Cai Shen earned a PhD. in Chemistry from the University of St Andrews, UK, in 2008. Sequentially, He continued his research at the University of Maryland, Heidelberg University and Aarhus University. He was an Associate Professor and then Professor at the Ningbo institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Science during 2013-2022. He joined the University of Nottingham Ningbo China in February 2022. He has published more than 100 papers in peer-review journals including JACS, ACS Nano, Nano Energy, Small Methods, and Energy Storage Materials. He is on the editorial board for a number of Journals including Journal of Microscopy, Materials and Energies. His research interesting mainly focuses on lithium-ion batteries and application of scanning probe microscopy. He has been admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in 2022.
