Montelukast sodium is available in oral conventional tablets, chewable tablets, and granules. Which has low bioavailability and it also causes temporary numbness upon oral administration. We made an attempt to overcome the problems by formulating montelukast sodium microsponge based hydrogels for transdermal delivery. The repeated administration can also be avoided and the patient compliance can be enhanced by sustaining the drug release and also decrease the dose. Thus the research work the formulation technique used was reproducible and the formulations were safe and efficient as vehicles for drug for transdermal delivery of drug over a period of 24 hours.
