Under normal conditions, the balance between proliferation and programmed cell death usually in the form of apoptosis, is maintained by tightly regulating both processes to ensure the integrity of organs and tissues. A brain tumor is the growth of abnormal cells in the tissues of the brain. Malignant brain tumors are among the most aggressive cancers for which no current satisfactory treatment exists. There are rapidly growing tumor cells that have glycolytic rates that are up to 200 times higher than those of their normal tissues of origin; this occurs even if oxygen is plentiful. This change in metabolism is the fundamental cause of cancer. This study focuses on developing new lead pharmaceutical compounds in an attempt to cure cancer. The research was conducted by using CEM s Microwave-Accelerated Reaction System (MARS) and green chemistry principles that has led to the development of cleaner chemical processes.
