Most of the children from low socio-economic society suffer from under nutrition.More often they dropout from schools at an early age, which directly affects their personality development, poor enrollment.High school dropout rate are attributed to the poor nutritional status of the children compounded by poor socio-economic conditions, Child labour and lack of motivation. Nutritional support to primary education is considered as a means to achieve the objective of providing free and compulsory universal primary education of satisfactory quality to all the children below the age of 14 years by giving a boost to universalisation of primary education through increased enrollment. Mid Day Meal Programme (MDM) aimed at improving the nutritional status of poor children and at ensuring better school enrollment.It has been functioning in various states of the country for over five decades. The study concentrates on the importance of mid-day meal scheme and analyses the effectiveness of mid-day scheme in terms of increased rate of enrollment,attendance in school and reduced dropout rates.
