A brutally murdered federal agent and distrust among his close colleagues greet Port Stirling Police Chief Matt Horning as he faces down a second homicide in his new Oregon hometown. Federal agent Clay Sherwin, who was briefly a suspect in a murder in Shallow Waters, book one in A Port Stirling Mystery series, has been found shot through the heart and decapitated in a marshy area near the Pacific Ocean. Just when his police department gets back to normal after solving its first murder in decades, along comes another dead body, but this one has ominous overtones never seen before in Port Stirling. Did Matt Horning bring this trouble with him when he fled a painful professional experience in Texas four months earlier? With his colleagues Detective Jay Finley, Cadet Fern Byrne, and Oregon State Trooper Ed Sanders assisting him, Horning must also deal with the federal officials from the State Department to investigate Sherwin's death. Is there really an international drug ring operating in his remote coastal village where nothing ever happens? Is this what Matt Horning bargained for when he took this job last winter? As spring blooms on the Oregon coast, are there also blossoming forbidden feelings within him? The intimidating 300-foot bluffs ringing the white-sand pristine beaches may present the perfect locale for those intent on evil. Dogged by his own demons, Horning must quickly face the facts; this is more than a few bad guys exchanging pot for cash. Much more. Does he have the resources and the experience to take back Port Stirling from those who would harm its peaceful vibe before it's lost forever? Can he outsmart the bad guys? In this shocking story based on a real-life incident, Midnight Beach continues the saga of Matt Horning and Port Stirling.
Autorenporträt
With my debut novel, Shallow Waters, I introduced a thrilling new mystery series set in my native state of Oregon, alongside our rugged Pacific coast. The second installment, Midnight Beach, continued the excitement with a story based on a real-life crime. Now it's time for the third book in the series, Code: Tsunami, which I desperately hope is NOT based on a real-life future event. I was born in the southwest corner of Oregon in a small town not unlike my fictional Port Stirling, and now live in Estacada, Oregon, with my charming husband, Steve, a technology entrepreneur. I've enjoyed a long career in corporate communications in such varied industries as tourism, healthcare, and sports. Since 2000, I've owned Paris Communications, a marketing, PR, and publishing firm. Some career highlights include the development of an internal newspaper for Nike, Inc., the Nike World Record, which was translated into eight languages and distributed to all Nike employees around the world. I'm also proud of my writing and coaching role at BleacherReport.com, a sports website, where my focus was college and NFL football. Like many Oregonians, I'm passionate about gardening, and earned Master Gardener status. A true plant nerd, I'm obsessively zealous about growing vegetables, although with 39 mostly-David Austin roses, one could also make the case that I'm a tiny bit obsessed with roses, too. I love the outdoors, particularly in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and I'm happiest hiking, playing golf, and enjoying the beaches, rivers, and lakes. A determined, avid traveler since my teens, I've visited dozens of countries around the world. While every place has its charms if you look hard enough, I include Scotland, the Galapagos Islands, Switzerland, Maui, and France's Dordogne region among her favorites. High on my post-Covid travel list currently are the Shetland Islands and New Zealand. Book 4 in my Port Stirling series will be published in early 2022. Thank you for reading!
