Thomas Chalmers Harbaugh was an American author and poet who lived from January 13, 1849, to October 28, 1924. He was born in Middletown, Maryland, on January 13, 1849. His family moved to Casstown, Ohio, when he was two years old, and he went to school there. After that, he worked as a painter for his father. He began writing full-time in 1867, mostly short stories and serials for dime books. He wrote the Nick Carter Detective Stories with other people. One thriller a week, he wrote between 300 and 600 of them with a pen. When he got a computer, he could sometimes write faster. Harbaugh wrote under at least 20 names, one of which was Capt. Collier. He died on October 28, 1924, in the Miami County Poor House in Ohio, without any money. The sad song "Trouble in the Amen Corner" is what he is known for. Some of its lyrics have been turned into a song that has been recorded several times and sold well.
