Max wishes his dad would spend more time with him. Things went downhill after his mother died in a car crash a year ago. He misses her so much it hurts. So he decides to start a problem-solving club to get his dad's attention and pride. But the tough problems pose a huge challenge. He needs to dig deep into his toolbox deal with them. The mindfulness skills his mother passed down to him will come in handy. Hopefully, they can help him look inside to calm down, breathe through the pain, and think clearly. Hopefully, his club does the right things to fix the bad stuff. Hopefully, he and his dad will pop out of their funk and life will get better. "Mindful Max and the Mental Magic Club is a poignant and heart-warming story, which imparts a message of compassion and healing to its young readers. Ms. Waters Casper skillfully weaves therapeutic and social issues together within a sound storyline, so that children can learn how to develop positive problem-solving skills along with techniques for anger management and teamwork. This book is a must for parents, teachers, and counselors who want to teach children alternative ways to handle difficult situations, as well as everyday problems." -Joyce C. Mills, Ph.D. C/LMFT, RPT-S-Executive Director of The StoryPlay Center in Scottsdale, AZ. Co-author of the award-winning, Therapeutic Metaphors for Children and The Child Within, Sammy the Elephant & Mr. Camel: and author of Reconnecting to the Magic of Life, Little Tree, and Gentle Willow Mindful Max is a multi-layered story that integrates these concepts with the human dramas arising in many children's lives and those they may interact with, so they may have a way to attain peace and equilibrium while reading the chapter book format they most enjoy at this age. Two research studies on mindfulness meditation academic and cognitive/emotional success with children are included in the book. Because of its universal application, and its status as a stand-alone chapter book, it can read and/or implemented as a tool used in classrooms, private practice or mental health centers, or many other settings where children gather to feel connected and have meaningful experiences.
