Minimal Intervention Dentistry (M. I. D) is a modern strategy of dealing with dental caries. If caries is caught in the very early stages, it can sometimes be reversed by diet, improved oral hygiene and by using fluorides. The loss of even a part of a human tooth should be regarded as a serious injury, never to be considered lightly, and a sound tooth is certainly worth the most careful restoration. Minimal intervention dentistry is an emerging technology which will bring an evolution in primary prevention of caries. The minimally invasive approach to treating dental caries incorporates the dental science of detecting, diagnosing, intercepting and treating dental caries at microscopic level, thus providing a cutting edge to the treatment of caries. 'Minimal intervention' is not just a technique; it is the ultimate goal of extending the life of restored teeth with as little intervention as possible.
