The pageant's top 16 semifinalists competed on both swimsuit and evening gown competitions to determine the top eight semifinalists, the first time since 2003. In the last round of the contest, the question-and answer portion, the eight remaining delegates were shown photos which depicted destructions of Mother Earth and asked about their impressions. At the conclusion of the competition, outgoing titleholder Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry of the Philippines crowned Larissa Ramos of Brazil as her successor.
