Missoula is a city in and the county seat of Missoula County, Montana, United States. The population was 57,053 at the 2000 census and the population of the Missoula Metropolitan Statistical Area was 95,802, making it the second-largest city and metropolitan area in Montana. It is the largest media market in the state. Missoula is the home of the University of Montana. Missoula is the birthplace of Jeannette Rankin (1880 1973), the first woman elected to the U.S. Congress. Missoula is nicknamed the Garden City.
