This text covers the basic principles of mitochondrial dynamics in cardiovascular medicine, with particular emphasis on their functional roles in physiology and disease. The book will include articles pertaining to mitochondrial fitness on a global basis, providing therefore an update on the progress made in several aspects in the field. Thus, it will assist scientists and clinicians alike in furthering basic and translational research. Organized in sections focusing on: basic science, mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiac disorders, in vascular disorders, in metabolic disorders, in kidney…mehr
Organized in sections focusing on: basic science, mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiac disorders, in vascular disorders, in metabolic disorders, in kidney disease, therapeutic challenges and options, this essential volume fills imperative gaps in understanding and potentially treating several cardiovascular disorders.
Dr. Gaetano Santulli received his MD and PhD at the University of Naples "Federico II". A physician scientist, Dr. Santulli completed his postdoctoral training at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, supported by an AHA fellowship and a Scientist Development Grant. Cardiologist, he authored more than 100 publications, including peer-reviewed articles in high impact journals, book chapters, and medical books. He is currently a faculty member of Columbia University. He lives in Manhattan. Dr. Santulli's expertise comprises both clinical and basic research topics, including hypertension, diabetes, angiogenesis, heart failure, arrhythmias, vascular disorders, and skeletal muscle disease. He is a member of several international academic societies, including New York Academy of Sciences, American Heart Association (AHA), American Diabetes Association, European Society of Cardiology, Endocrine Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, European Association of Heart Failure, European Association of Echocardiography, Acute Cardiovascular Care Association, European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions. He serves on the Editorial Boards of numerous medical Journals
