In mitochondria, one of the mechanisms for maintaining low levels of reactive oxygen species is the separation of respiration and oxidative phosphorylation, which is mediated by a number of energy-dissipating systems, including ADP/ATP-antiporter, aspartate-glutamate transporter, thermogenin or UCP1. Produktbeschreibung
The involvement of the remaining UCP family proteins is still controversial. Disclosure of their functions is extremely important for the creation of a holistic picture of the functioning of cellular mechanisms of protection against AOS. The monograph presents data on the influence of ROS on the main bioenergetic parameters of mitochondria. It is shown that the resorption effect of purine nucleotides both in the presence and absence of superoxide radical in rat liver and kidney mitochondria is related not to UCP2 functioning but to their action on ADP/ATP-antiporter. A hypothetical model of the involvement of uncoupling proteins in the protection against the action of AFCs and, in particular, superoxide radicals, is proposed. The book is intended for researchers as well as for university professors and students as a textbook in biochemistry and bioenergetics courses.
