Divided into three main sections, the book provides a comprehensive but practical overview of the different phases and activities involved in developing and implementing sound, rational, and effective mixed methods research, taking into account the intercultural implications. Each chapter illustrates the core principles in practice, using case studies of English teaching research worldwide. Chapters cover the following topics in relation to mixed methods research: the qualitative/quantitative continuum, planning a project, gathering data, analyzing data, interpreting results, reporting, as well as research in classrooms, action research, corpus research, statistical research, conversation and discourse analyses, survey research, testing research, and program evaluation. Each chapter recommends applications in ESL and EFL classes and programs and offers guided tasks, presenting extracts and summaries of MMR studies from the TESOL literature, and suggests further readings to inform individual practice.
