Mixed radiolucent radiopaque lesions are basically radiolucent lesions having radiopaque foci in it. A wide variety of normal anatomic landmarks and pathologic conditions can produce them. Amongst the mixed radiolucent radiopaque lesions many of these lesions represent intermediate stage of development and maturation of opaque lesions. The pathologic entity may commences as osteolytic lesion showing radiolucency and development of foci of calcified material within it which subsequently grow in size get sufficiently mineralized to become radiographically evident. On histologic examination these lesions contain calcified areas of hard tissue either tooth or bone. In few lesions the radiopacities are poorly defined and instead of calcified material they are produced by dense composite of fibrous tissue. It is an outstanding feature of these lesions that they show close correlation between radiographic appearance and histologic findings.
