Whom do we call "youth"? The dictionary defines "youth" as "the period between childhood and adult age". "Youth" is generally understood as a period of transition/transformation from the dependence of childhood to adulthood's independence and awareness of this interdependence as members of a community. Over the past decade there has been a quick transformation of individual empowerment due to the increased usage of internet and other online facilities. Blogging, emails, texting SMS etc. has connected the individual with the rest of the world in a single click of the mouse or tap of the screen. But there are negative effects as well associated with the wide spread usage of such facilities specially the mobile phones and it is more often seen among the youths. There has been psychological and psychosomatic disorders as well as behavioral problems prevalent among the youths which are claimed to be a result of rampant use of mobile phones. However our investigation is limited to urban youth population. Therefore we will try to give a socio-economic divide in mobile phone usage. We also give a solution to minimize this new addiction.
