Elias Cherenet è nato il 5 giugno 1984 a Boru Jawi, in Etiopia. Ha conseguito la laurea in Gestione delle risorse naturali presso l'Università di Bahir dar, Etiopia, e un master in Scienze della geoinformazione e osservazione della terra presso l'Università di Twente, Paesi Bassi. Attualmente lavora come docente di GIS &RS presso l'Università di Haramaya, Etiopia.
