Solar thermal systems produce hot water by harnessing energy from the sun. The use of solar collectors for water heating has grown significantly in recent years as it uses can reduce significantly energy costs and environmental impacts. The use the solar thermal system as a storage system requires the use of a detailed model with, at least, hourly resolution. The solar collector is the element of the system that converts sunlight (short-wave radiation) into heat. It establishes the connection between solar energy and the remaining components of the solar system through the hydraulic circuit. Heat is generated by the absorption of the sun's rays through a metal plate.
