Autorenporträt
Susan McElwain currently resides in Toronto. Her interest in haiku was piqued at a young age. A chance encounter with her fathers university text books led her to read the Japanese masters Basho and Issa. The brief, yet succinct visual pictures the poetry exuded sparked an interest. Years later, whilst attending a creative writing class, haiku came to mind. Susan recorded her haiku's in a journal entitled Modern 17 Syllable Thoughts. Although many of her haiku's are influenced by immediate surroundings, it is the spiritual aspect that is of interest to her. Susan always challenges herself to unite with the intangible and absorb the texture of daily life. Susan McElwain has resided in Australia, Hawaii and Rome. Her extensive travels were facilitated by her work as a flight attendant, allowing for experiences of diverse cultures and modes of living. These haiku's reflect her worldly experiences. Susan posted the haiku's to Instagram @haikuyyz and created an international audience.
