The book approaches the subject of ERP systems, presented in their multiple facets. It is addressed to students, professionals, and other practitioners interested in discovering or widening their horizon in the field of Business Information Systems in general and ERP in particular. The book has two volumes and this is Volume 1. The subjects presented within the chapters of this first volume are: the evolution of Business Information Systems, the history and evolution of ERP systems, ERP implementation, budget, costs and benefits, ERP vendor selection, the implementation steps and activities of ERP products and others. Volume 2 will highlight other ardent subjects that are strictly connected with ERP, especially extended enterprise solutions, such as CRM, SCM, Business Intelligence, SOA, EAI,and others. This book is based upon author's experience of ten to fifty years, gained through the courses they have taught, the articles they have published, conferences they have attended, PhD and master thesis conducted and books they have written. The target audience will be mostly students but, at the same time, anyone interested in this dynamic and continuously evolving domain,which is ERP.
