This book, Modern China in Transition and Development: A Series of Empirical Studies in Many Facets, strives to present to the interested readers insightful analyses and findings shedding important light on the many facets of the various related issues and problems, of both a macro and micro nature, concerning China's modern growth, transition, and development. This introductory chapter introduces the related topics, while all the subsequent chapters, mostly by carrying out our own empirical discussions, focus on dealing with the many facets of the related issues. Each chapter is completely self-contained and can thus be read on its own, which hopefully improves the usefulness of the book as a text.
