Among these are the festivals and fairs that make up the festive calendar of Yucatan. Thus, the patron saint festivals were consolidated as a bastion of popular religiosity. In each of the towns a sacred image is venerated, known as the Patron Saint, to whom the people, together with the local church authorities, organize a festival in his honor as a symbol of respect and devotion, such as the feast of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception of Izamal.
