Complete coverage of all aspects of engineering in the controls and hydronic applications of geothermal HVAC
With a focus on market needs and customer goals, Modern Geothermal HVAC Engineering and Control Applications details the engineering and design of geothermal systems, including the optimal system to set up in varying geographic regions. The book explains the application of heat transfer convection, conduction, and radiation and addresses installation challenges using specific pumping calculations. Complete information on all control parameters is also provided. Appendices include an overview of incentives, tax credits and rebates; how to troubleshoot a geothermal system; and calculating long-term return on investment. Increasingly affordable, reliable, homegrown geothermal energy has tremendous appeal to many different people, and this will be the book to which institutions will gravitate in order to gain comprehensive training, learn more, and explore the technology.
Explains how to engineer and specify geothermal HVAC for building projects
Describes what type of systems will likely work in any particular area
Discusses pricing expectations for a particular efficiency and quality
Covers the design and integration of the different types of systems
Reviews the benefits of geothermal, including reduced pollution, increased self-reliance, and long-term cost savings
Autorenporträt
Jay Egg is a certified geothermal designer and founder of Egg Systems, an HVAC services company focused on geothermal technology. He is a sought-after expert on geothermal HVAC, and his team has written hundreds of web articles on the topic. Jay is the lead author of Geothermal HVAC: Green Heating and Cooling (McGraw-Hill, 2010). Greg Cunniff is an Application Engineering Manager with Taco Hydronics, a manufacturer and world authority in the field of controls and pumping technologies related to geothermal HVAC. Taco recently broke ground on a $20 million training facility in Cranston, RI, where they will be training up to 200 students at a time, focusing on geothermal technologies. Carl Orio is a geothermal heat pump systems design engineer, serving as Chairman of Water Energy Distributors, Inc. He is a Certified GeoExchange Designer (Cert#23), and directs and actively participates in training programs for geothermal design engineers and installers. Carl has authored hundreds of transactions, manuals, seminars, and papers on geothermal applications. From the mid 1970s to early 1980 he headed WESCORP Inc, manufacturing approximately 2,200 geothermal heat pumps. During that time to the present, he has developed the Standing Column Well concept, has designed systems and distributed approximately 14,000 geothermal heat pumps.
