More than 70% of the world consumption of energy is covered by fossile energies like coal, oil and natural gas. The use of these energies causes emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, which is a big problem nowadays. Renewable energies are considered as longer-termed alternatives and beneath them, biomass is the most important. Therefore a physical characterisation of wood fuels is important when choosing fuels for various boiler systems and technologies. The quality of the wood chips depends on the size distribution, moisture content and on impurities. This book comprises of investigations and evaluation of methods of moisture content determination of wood chips for energy purposes. In view of the requirements accuracy, time, representation and possibility of field tests the methods were investigated and compared to each other. Suggestions for improvement in usage and construction for methods with the overall mark "good" can be made.
