From the literature study we concluded that the plant Zingiber officinale has a wide variety of medicinal properties. Due to huge application of the plant in the field of medicine it fascinates attention of researchers. Plants synthesize various phenolic compound, mainly gingerols are synthesized from the Phenylpropanoid biosynthetic pathway. There is a strong correlation between C-4-H and biosynthesis of phenolic compounds. Until now, there is no report on the sequencing of the gene encoding C-4-H from Zingiber officinale. Our increasing understanding of individual enzymes will allow use of more sophisticated approach with the ability to engineer substrate and product specificities (natural or unnatural) into native enzyme or domains will increasingly remove our dependence upon nature to provide desirable activities. It would be very helpful to further understanding of the Phenylpropanoid and Gingerol synthesis pathway, and its molecular regulation mechanisms, which might provide the basics for improving of phenylpropanoid pathway by genetic engineering in Zingiber officinale.
