This research work was carried out to make a comparative study of monoterpenes present inin vitro and field grown plants of Mentha arvensis L. (Japanese mint). Apical and nodalexplants of M. arvensis L. were cultured on MS agar-solidified media with different-1concentrations of BAP (0.2 to 1 mgL) for shoot induction. Best response of shoot induction-1% age was achieved on MS medium supplemented with 1mgL BAP from both apical andnodal explants. Highest number of shoots were formed on MS medium supplemented with-1-10.25 mgL Kinetin and 1mgL BAP from nodal explants on solid medium whereas in liquid-1medium highest number of shoots were induced in MS medium with 0.75 mgL Kinetin and-11mgLBAP from axenic shoots. In vitro grown shoots were cultured in half MS salts-1supplemented with IBA (2 mgL) for rooting. For callus induction from leaf, nodal andinternodal explants, MS medium supplemented with different conc. of growth hormones wastested. Excellent callus was achieved from leaf explants cultured on MS medium + 2,4-D-1-1(3mgL ) and 0.25 mgL BAP. Dark conditions proved to be the best for callus induction and16hs photoperiod for callus proliferation.
