The debut poetry collection from award winning Black trans poet Tere Fowler Chapman. A debut poetry collection over a decade in the making, documenting and reflecting on a trauma survivor's experience in the American southwest as both a Black person and a trans man. This collection is skillfully penned but emotionally raw, ducking pretense in favor of unflinching truth. A unique and well-rendered account from an exciting and up and coming force in the world of free verse poetics. "A riveting debut - part song and part prayer casted into the cosmos. Get ready for hard truth palpitations, and shorelines of transgender reverence."--Kay Ulanday Barrett, winner of the 2022 Cy Twombly Award for Poetry "This collection should be on every Gender Studies and Black Studies syllabus."--Dr. Marshall Green, winner of the Ford Foundation Pre-Doctoral and Dissertation Fellowship "These poems unburden themselves from the stigma of mental health, and the heaviness of trauma to guide the reader into the complexities of life as a Black person in this moment."--Jaden Fields, author of Intentional Musings On Staying Alive "...a thunderclap of love and a medicinal Black boi magic to remind us, in all corners of the world, that they're 'too beautiful to be boxed in.'"--Mari Herreras, author of At Grande and Congress Poetry. African & African American Studies. LGBTQ+ Studies.
