This new adult lesbian romance is the story of Danielle (Dani) Lassiter as she heads off to Syracuse University for her freshman year of college. And as far as any of their new college friends know, she and her girlfriend Meredith are just roommates and nothing more. And for a little while, they are able to keep it their private secret. Dani has goals for her college career. She wants to get involved in campus politics and get elected as one of the freshmen representatives of the Student Association. She's also set her sights on improving her lacrosse skills so she can be good enough to make the varsity women's lacrosse team. Reality hits hard and fast, though, when she discovers that things aren't coming as easily to her in college as they did in high school. An older female student assaults her. A lacrosse coach tells her she isn't good enough. And, the worst thing, her relationship with her not-just-a-roommate Meredith lands on shaky ground from both sides. Dani accidentally starts an informal after-school program teaching young neighborhood children lacrosse. At one point, she advises them to just "be themselves." She tells them that good things will happen if they do that. It is only when ten-year-old Natalie reminds her to do that for herself that she becomes unsure of what it means to "be herself." Who is Danielle Lassiter, really? Unsteady and unsure, Dani has difficult decisions to make. And one of those decisions includes whether or not she should stay at Syracuse University. Running away to Albany State might be easier on everyone, including herself.
