The main purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using Mother Tongue (Hiligaynon) as medium of instruction on the level of performance in mathematics worded problems of the Grade IV pupils. Quasi-experimental design was used by the researchers to address the different problems posed in this study. The subjects of the study were 40 pupils of Grade IV of Murcia Elementary School currently enrolled for the school year 2016-2017. Twenty pupils were in the control group while the other twenty pupils were in the experimental group. Statistical analysis of the data required the use of the mean, standard deviations, and t-test for independent samples. Results indicate that there was a highly significant difference between the posttest level of performance in math worded problems of the control and experimental groups. Findings also revealed that there was a highly significant difference between the mean gain scores of the control and experimental groups. The study concluded that the experimental group performed better in math worded problems than the control group in the posttest.
