Funso Afuye stammt aus Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti-State im Südwesten Nigerias. Er promovierte 2016 in Bauprojektmanagement an der Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenia; 2008 erwarb er einen MSc. in Baumanagement an der University of Jos, Plateau-State, Nigeria, und 1992 einen BSc. in Bautechnik an der Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
