Autorenporträt
Sandy, born in June 1948, is the oldest of Duane and Vera Newington's five children and the mother of four wonderful kids. She grew up in the small town of Hickory Corners, Michigan. At age sixteen, she began teaching young children baton twirling, gymnastics, and dance classes while attending Gull Lake High School. She continued teaching these classes through 1990. She graduated from Lake Michigan Nursing Program with honors, followed by training in the specialty area of Obstetrics. In 1987, she and her family relocated to Walterboro, South Carolina, where she continued her nursing career in Labor and Delivery, until retiring in December 2012. Sandy holds her entire family very dear. She has a huge passion for babies, poetry, and needlecrafts of all kinds. Following retirement, she began blending all her passions together by writing children's stories with subtle messages through the art of light-hearted poetry to entertain her grandkids. Most of her characters are named for family members (who seem to get a kick out of it!). All her illustrations are embroidered on her sewing machine. Her stories are based in her home state of Michigan and her current residence of South Carolina. In October 2019, Sandy was juried into the South Carolinian Artisan Association as a new artist for her story books, which are on display at the South Carolina Artisans Center in Walterboro.
