The book puts an accent on the potential tension between multiculturalism and feminism, particularly the recognition of group specific rights and toleration of certain practices in multicultural societies that clash with the issues of gender equality. Gender inequalities within cultural groups collide with the interest of the liberal society particularly with the individual rights. Cultures are gendered as well and gender as a social construct vary from one culture to another. Multiculturalism still has an important role in the fight for equality but it has to develop more dynamic interpretation of culture in order to prevent gender inequality and injustice.
