Providing delay guarantees to time-sensitive multimedia traffic in future wireless networks is a challenging problem. This is due to the time-varying link capacities and the variety of real-time applications expected to be handled by such networks. Multiuser diversity schemes that exploit the variations in the users' channel conditions offer orders of magnitude increase in the performance of wireless systems. This book addresses the problem of channel-aware scheduling of delay bounded traffic for two different wireless network models: Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) broadband wireless networks. A unique feature of this work is the explicit provisioning of statistical QoS while enhancing fairness in data rates, delay bounds, and delay bound violations. We provide extensive simulation results to show the different performance aspects of the proposed schemes.
