Finalist for The Wishing Shelf Book Awards (Teen and Young Adult) She was the girl he'd never forget. Now she's the past he can't escape. ¿ At first glance, Lukas Wunand has it made. As a rising star at a prestigious university with lots of friends and career options, Lukas could reinvent himself a thousand times if he wanted to. More importantly, he could try to forget his deep friendship with Kara, an immigrant and newcomer to his old neighborhood-and the confusion and betrayal she left in her wake. The problem is that Lukas has seen Kara, on campus, even though she's supposed to be oceans away. Or did he? When a series of disturbing incidents put the student body on edge, Kara's reappearance triggers Lukas' growing erratic behavior. But his obsession with his teenage memories of her could cost him the tenuous friendships he's already strained to the breaking point. Lukas needs to find Kara-or at least a flesh-and-blood explanation-before he loses sight of what's real entirely and who he truly is. Set in the 90s with hints of grunge culture, Munching on the Sun takes the reader on a winding road to the truth in this suspense-fueled, psychological story.
Autorenporträt
Mark Paul Oleksiw loves to write, always has and always will. It started with his first composition class when he was 7. Many moons, experiences and zany characters later, his first novel, the coming of age tale of a 1980's music-loving teen, The Boys Who Danced with the Moon is entertaining and hopefully inspiring readers. His works are based on his fascination with offbeat characters, the challenges of growing up and the search for, well, you will just have to find out! His second novel, Munching on the Sun, is inspired by his love of a music and literature. It is a tribute to idealists trying to survive an imperfect world. His most recent and most challenging work, Time's Musicians, is the tale of outcasts as heroes and the comic book creator haunted and defined by his childhood friends. It is a coming-of-age story told in the form of a psychological thriller. Born in the suburbs of Montreal in the late 1960's, Mark survived the cold winters and a career in the business world. In between, he graduated from McGill University, where he was co-editor of his faculty's satirical and sometimes politically incorrect monthly magazine. Mark grew up a fan of guitar-driven music, great lyrics and was grunge before grunge, at least in his mind. Mark lives in the western part of his hometown with his wife, three teenage sons, and cat. When not working on a novel, he is listening to music, daydreaming or just being mischievous.
