Industrialization and urbanisation of Bhopal and surrounding region is continuously going on at a rapid pace. The city with 70 municipal wards (Project area 285.5sq.km) has been divided into 14 Solid Waste Management (SWM) zones. Municipal solid waste collection in Bhopal city is 810 M.T./day. Currently the huge solid waste is disposed unscientifically by open dumping at Bhanpura village disposal site since 35 years continuously. Based on the physical composition analysis of waste, it has been found out that about 62% of the waste is biodegradable, 28% are recyclables with very low inert content of only 10%. However recyclable plant has been closed.
