Solid waste management is a major crisis in most of the cities all over the world. In general, management of solid waste carried out through various methods like segregation, collection, transport, processing and disposal. However, the hurdles faced in the course of solid waste management in mountain localities were more complex and entirely different from those of flat landscapes. In this context, the present study focused on the status of existing solid waste management practices and its impacts on the environment with emphasis on factors affecting the efficient management of solid waste in hilly region, Udhagamandalam.
