Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic used to treat superficial skin infections and to control spread of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The existence of mupirocin resistance among MRSA isolates is cause for concern since there are not many effective alternatives for mupirocin resistant strains. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics has led to the development of antibiotic resistant strains for commonly used antibiotics. Thus, a detailed study is required with regard to proper antibiotic usage and susceptibility testing, irrespective of the organisms isolated from samples to find out the resistance patterns. Hence, we believe that our study will provide information to Clinicians in prescribing effective and appropriate antimicrobial agents against a very important hospital acquired infection such as MRSA to help improve the health care system.
