This deliciously dark comedy about low morals in high places finds Muriel a fish out of water among the British upper crust. Muriel inhabits Manor House, a country estate she inherited from a distant relative, with a motley crew of family, staff, and various hangers on, including her blind brother-in-law, an ex-husband lurking about the squash court, and her feckless son who lives in a nearby barn with his wife and daughter. A return visit from the Queen Mother and Princess Matilda triggers pandemonium as troublesome neighbors plague Muriel for invitations to the manor, her guests engage in lascivious behavior, and the male nanny parades around with an old pram trimmed with felt mice sporting umbrellas and sprayed with mimosa blossom. Rodents run wild and randy donkeys add to the human commotion in this high-spirited romp.
