Gérald Côté se doctoró en etnomusicología en 1997. Ha publicado varios ensayos y numerosos artículos y conferencias impartidas en Rumanía, Brasil, México y África. El éxito de su último libro, Jazz from the Inside Out, llevó a su reedición en octubre de 2011 y ha sido objeto de varias conferencias en todo el mundo.
