Es un político que ha destacado por estar siempre en el ojo del huracán. Fue dirigente nacional del Partido Revolucionario Institucional (2002- 2005), candidato a la presidencia de México (2006), diputado federal en dos ocasiones (1976, 1991), senador (1988), gobernador de Tabasco (1995-2000), delegado político en Magdalena Contreras (1980-1982) y dirigente nacional de diversas organizaciones juveniles (1973 -1978). A la vez, ha sido hombre de acción y reflexiones; muestra de ello son las obras que acompañan su trayectoria: Donde empieza el pavimento (1987), Bases para un gobierno firme y con rumbo (2005), La traición (Planeta, 2007) y El despojo (Planeta, 2009). Como político ilustrado, no le son ajenos los desafíos del mundo global y para abordarlos ha enlazado su conocimiento del territorio nacional con el mapa de los anhelos de su gente. Roberto Madrazo ha dedicado tiempo a escribir y ahora, con el paso de los años, suma a su biografía política las virtudes del juicio de fondo.
