In the beautiful port city of Thessaloniki, young father Alexandros lives with his wife and son as he studies philology at the University of Thessaloniki. Alexandros and his wife could be content with their lives - but it's 1940 and World War II rages right outside their door. At the university, Alexandros becomes close with Professor Katsonis, who recruits Alexandros to take a deeper role in the conflict. Before long, he and his family involve themselves in espionage and the resistance during the Nazi Occupation of Greece to protect the homeland they love. As tensions rise abroad and at home, the family must separate to stay alive. While Alexandros philosophizes about his beliefs and faces Nazi retaliation, his wife and children must travel throughout Greece to avoid the Nazi hunters. Before the war ends, fate forces Alexandros and his family to make a heart-wrenching decision affecting the future of their lives and impacting their humanity and love for Thessaloniki.
